On the night of June 28, 1969, in Greenwich Village in Manhattan, New York, a series of violent events occurred between the police and the gay community, lasting up to 3 days. The following year, to commemorate these events, the world’s first gay pride parade was held in New York. Today we celebrate love and life, we honor the continued fight for respect, acceptance and equal rights for all.
From creatives to organizations, here are 10 things that inspire us right now, 10 things love – #PrideMonth.
1. Camila Falquez
is a photographer, artist and filmmaker. This self-taught artist has had a nonstop career, being the first Spanish woman to shoot a cover for Vogue Spain. An artistic, feminist, colorful component, and surreal touch, drives her take on portraiture showcasing a mixture of cultures and her admiration for the LGBTQ+ community. Her sensibilities towards the subject’s personality transcend the printed matter and live outside the photo in an abundant manner, a feel for each one of them.

“The book is an invitation to co-create a world where all human beings find their place.” The piece brings togethers a mix of mediums such as journalism, graphic design, fashion, illustration and more, to depict the embodiment of the Muxes. Males who live and work in the field but also males, who in a fashionable and extravagant manner, dress like women.

6. Anything’s Possible, a film by Billy Porter
The 52-year-old queer actor and activist has made numerous iconic interventions serving as a speaker for the LGTBQ + community in the fight for their rights. Now, the Emmy-winning actor is behind the camera to make his directorial debut with “Anything’s Possible,” a John Hughes-esque, coming-of-age, comedy-drama about trans student Kelsa.
“Anything’s Possible” is about LGBTQ joy. The trauma that is often portrayed in film and television when it comes to trans stories is found nowhere in this world. “This is an aspirational story. It’s almost like a fairytale,” Porter says. “We know that. It’s a look at what we can be. That’s what we as artists get to do — look at what we can be and what we should be” shared Porter about the film.
